There’s a lot of Republicans who are masquerading as “progressives.” No, really. They’re against gay marriage, the repeal of DADT, want Social Security abolished, rolling back health care reform, and any number of other progressive programs and accomplishments. You see, they say they’re progressives. They’re among the loudest voices proclaiming how progressive they are, and how they want these things – no ifs, ands, or buts.
So why would I say they’re against the very things they’re saying they want? It’s quite simple. They’re busily announcing that since they didn’t get what they wanted yesterday, they’re going to stay home and not vote. They’re going to let the Republicans win, and “teach the Democrats that we can’t be taken for granted!” Yes, they really want the Republicans to win. That it means that everything that’s been gained will be, if not lost, will at the very least crippled. Every progressive item that has been in progress will come to a screeching halt. That it isn’t going to teach the Democratic Party anything – history shows a quite different result – isn’t germane.
The only conclusion I can come to? They’re in the closet. They’re really Republicans. They just don’t want to admit it.
